Gopher Control

Gophers are woodland critters that in media, are typically portrayed as the cute and cuddly burrowers that pop up seemingly unannounced. Their buck teeth open with witty remarks and jokes, often making them the comedic relief in children's series or movies. However, the reality is much different. Although movies borrow the burrowing trait from the real life counterparts, they drastically underrepresent the extent to which gophers burrow. In real life, gophers are notorious for their extensive tunneling activities that destroy farms and gardens alike, making them a nuisance that contrasts heavily from their media portrayals.

Similarly, gophers can be a disruptive nuisance to parks as well. Their extensive network of tunnels can undermine the integrity of part pathways, sports fields, and picnic areas, leading to uneven ground and potential tripping hazards for park visitors. These damages are not only dangerous, but are also expensive to repair, making gopher control services important for any park to maintain a safe and functional environment.

For aesthetics, gophers can cause significant damage to park vegetation. Munching on plant roots from trees, shrubs, and flowers, gophers leave a trail of chewed up greens wherever they go, destroying the aesthetic appeal and disrupting the local ecosystems. After all, park vegetation does more than give us something to look at on our walks; they also help prevent soil erosion and help keep the landscape stabilized, making gopher population control a necessity for both park wildlife and visitors. Likewise, unchecked gopher activity disturbs the soil structure, preventing it from properly absorbing water and affecting drainage. This occurrence can exacerbate issues like flooding during heavy rains or drought during dry spells, complicating park maintenance.

To avoid these issues, the City of Oxnard, California is seeking bids from qualified contractors to conduct gopher abatement services in City Parks or City Locations to achieve full control of the affected area.
