The joys of a park are numerous. They provide a variety of comforts and activity and are also prides of the community they are at the center of. Whether it's taking a stroll with loved ones or playing basketball with new faces, parks give individuals and groups a place to enjoy the outdoors in a place that is not far from the comforts of their own house.
That being said, a way for parks to be even more convenient is if they were neighborhood parks. Typically these parks are around a quarter to three quarters of a mile from the nearest neighborhood, and that distance means that taking a car is no longer necessary. Other parks may be grander and offer more amenities, but these parks may be farther away and the distance can deter more visits and in turn reduce the time people spend outdoors. The implementation of neighborhood parks can mean that park visits would no longer increase carbon footprints or require any unnecessary planning; you can literally just get up and go. The convenience of these parks could encourage more people to go outside and enjoy the sunlight while also providing a place for kids and teens to play a number of sports that the park may offer, including basketball or the new craze, pickleball.
The benefits of a neighborhood park are clear, and Frisco, Texas is seeking bids for the construction of a neighborhood park that is approximately seven acres. The park features preserved existing tree areas on the property as well as a variety of park programs incorporated around the trees. Some of these programs include large play lawns/fields, a sports court, and more. The park will be called Buffalo Ridge Park and will bring the benefits of every other park with the convenience of being right next door.
