Road Paving

Paved roads are not just a luxury for drivers; they are also a necessity. An essential part of the functioning of modern society, roads are the backbone of the infrastructure of transportation. Because of this, they also need to be in the best shape possible. Paved roads smooth the drive and enable faster travel compared to unpaved roads, and a lot of that has to do with the rate of accidents on unpaved roads compared to paved. Unpaved roads can cause accidents from many different ways, including swerving to avoid a pothole or being involuntarily shifted into the path of another car. These unpaved roads are especially dangerous in precarious weather conditions, where sight and reflex are limited. Even without bad weather, the dangers of an unpaved road extend into the night as well, especially since the many cracks and holes that dot the dark road are made harder to see and prepare for even with the foresight headlights provide.

Beyond the tangible benefits a paved road can provide, smooth roads can also improve fuel consumption for vehicles. Smoother roads reduce engine strain and improve overall performance of vehicles, decreasing money spent on gas and on vehicle repairs. This indirectly helps the environment as well, since it cuts down on carbon footprint costs and gas used. Paved roads also limit the amount of dust and particulate matter generated by driving on unpaved roads, helping with visibility and air pollution. The lack of dust improves air quality and can decrease respiratory issues and other related health problems.

Athens, Georgia is seeking qualified vendors to pave the roadway in the production area close to the National Poultry Poultry Research Center on College Station Road. The road itself is a busy intersection many students pass through, either to get food or groceries from the nearby stores and restaurants. It is also an important path for students to get to and from campus, so road maintenance is especially crucial. The scope of work entails paving of the entire drive line around the production area, which is approximately 1000 feet, paving both sides of the fence at the entrance to production, paving the driveways on both sides, and paving the area in the road to the right outside the fence. Of course, this project also includes removal of any necessary debris and tree roots from the replaced asphalt and work done.

The benefits of a paved road can do wonders for a community, and for a college town such as Athens, the better the infrastructure the better the quality of life for the students. Imagine going to class for five hours a day to come back home and pop a tire on a pothole or have to drive twenty minutes out of the way because of an accident. Even worse, imagine missing class because of the same reasons. To help limit the likelihood of accidents and to help the students and people who live in that area, click here
